Excellent organization and an outstanding guide. Lakpa had 18 years of experience and it showed in every single decision on the trail. He knew which tea house had the best food, which viewpoints to pause at for photos, and when to slow down before any of us asked. The daily oxygen checks gave huge peace of mind. I turned 25 on Day 7 at Dingboche. Guide Kami somehow organized a birthday cake at 4,410m — where he sourced it I'll never know — and the entire tea house of trekkers from eight countries sang for me. That memory alone justifies the entire trip. The trek itself was extraordinary — the Hillary Bridge, Tengboche, the Khumbu Glacier, Kala Patthar sunrise. Five stars is genuinely not enough.

I was terrified by altitude sickness before going — read everything and scared myself. In reality the acclimatization was well-managed, the guide was constantly monitoring everyone, and the pace was conservative enough that I never felt out of control. The trek is physically demanding, the tea houses are basic above 4,000m, and the altitude is very real — but none of that matters when you're at Kala Patthar watching the most spectacular sunrise on the planet. Guide was exceptional, health monitoring was thorough, every detail handled perfectly. A customer for life.

Nobody ever mentions the food enough in these reviews. The dal bhat in the tea houses is genuinely delicious and the unlimited refills policy is one of the best things that exists at any altitude. The apple pies in Namche bakeries should be internationally famous. The garlic soup at Lobuche saved my soul on a cold evening when everything felt hard. And the farewell dinner in Kathmandu on Day 13 was perfect.

My 14-year-old son and I did this together. He is now the coolest kid in his school and I am arguably the coolest father in Germany. The guide was wonderful with him — explaining mountains in ways that captured a teenager's imagination, letting him take the daily oxygen readings, involving him in navigation decisions. My son cried at Kala Patthar. He won't admit it. So did I. Neither of us will ever forget it.

Just back from the most incredible two weeks of my life. I'm 52 and was genuinely nervous about the altitude, but the guides were so experienced at managing pace and monitoring health that I never felt out of my depth. Namche Bazaar surprised me most — the bakeries, the Saturday market, the views. But nothing prepares you for standing at Base Camp seeing the Khumbu Icefall above your head. Life-changing.
