Why pre-book your airport taxi to Thamel

  • One fixed price: no haggling with taxi drivers at the airport after a long flight.
  • No waiting: your driver is already at arrivals with your name.
  • Late flights are covered: we track your flight and adjust your pickup.
  • Safer at night: you know your driver’s name and car before you get in.
  • Small car for small lanes: the compact Alto reaches most Thamel hotels.

Travelling with trekking gear or a bigger group?

The Alto is perfect for 1 to 3 travellers with normal luggage. If you are 4 or more people, or carry large trekking duffels or several big suitcases, message us before booking and we will arrange a larger vehicle at the right price.

Thamel to Kathmandu Airport (return)

The same transfer works in reverse. For your departure, book a pickup from your Thamel hotel and leave at least 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic flight, because traffic can be heavy in rush hours (about 8–10 am and 4–7 pm). You can add your return trip in the booking form.

About Thamel

Thamel is Kathmandu’s main travellers’ area, packed with hotels, restaurants, cafés, trekking shops and travel agencies. It is a short drive from Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath, and the usual base for trekkers before the Everest Base Camp Trek or the Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

A private Alto taxi from Kathmandu Airport to Thamel costs $20 per car, one way. The price is per vehicle, not per person, and includes fuel, tolls and parking.

How far is Kathmandu Airport from Thamel?

About 7 km, depending on where your hotel is in Thamel.

How long does it take from Kathmandu Airport to Thamel by taxi?

Usually 30 to 60 minutes. Rush hours (about 8–10 am and 4–7 pm) and festival days can make the journey longer.

Where will my driver meet me at Kathmandu Airport?

In the arrivals area outside the terminal, after immigration and baggage claim. Your driver holds a sign with your name. You also receive his name, car details and phone number before pickup.

What happens if my flight is delayed or early?

We track your flight and move your pickup time automatically. Your 10 minutes of free waiting starts after your flight lands, so immigration queues are not a problem.

What if I can't find my driver?

Message us on WhatsApp at +977 9712067531 with your location. We call your driver and connect you within minutes.

Should I book my airport taxi in advance?

Yes, especially if it is your first visit, you land late at night or you are tired after a long flight. Pre-booking gives you a fixed price, a driver waiting with your name and no haggling.

Yes. Pickups run 24/7, including late-night and early-morning arrivals, as long as you book in advance.

How many people and bags fit in the car?

Can the taxi reach my hotel in Thamel?

Usually yes, because the Alto is small. Some Thamel lanes are closed to cars, so send your hotel's Google Maps pin. If needed, your driver stops at the nearest street and shows you the way.

Do I pay the driver in cash?

No. You pay online when you book. Only optional tips or extras you agree on beforehand are paid on the day.

Can I cancel or change my booking?

Yes. Date and time changes are free up to 24 hours before pickup, or you can keep the full amount as credit. Less than 24 hours before, there is no refund.

Can I book a return taxi from Thamel to the airport?

Yes. Add the return trip in the booking form or book it separately. Leave Thamel at least 3 hours before an international flight and 2 hours before a domestic flight.

Is this transfer good for trekkers?

Yes. Most trekkers stay in Thamel before treks such as Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Base Camp. If you carry large duffels, tell us so we can send a car with enough space.
