Lobuche Teahouse
The last night before Everest Base Camp, on the edge of the Khumbu Glacier

About Lobuche Teahouse
Lobuche (4,910 m) is a small cluster of teahouses on the edge of the Khumbu Glacier moraine, surrounded by Lobuche East, Nuptse and Pumori. It is a high, rocky and very cold place, and for most trekkers it is the night when the altitude really starts to be felt, just one day before standing at Everest Base Camp.
Your night in Lobuche
You arrive on Day 8 from Dingboche, after lunch in Thukla and the steep climb past the Thukla Pass Memorial. The next morning you continue to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp. Read more about Lobuche.
What the teahouse is like
Rooms are basic twin rooms with thin walls, beds and blankets; toilets are shared and water can freeze at night. The dining room stove is lit in the evening, and that is where everyone stays warm until bedtime. Charging and Wi-Fi are expensive at this altitude. Nights fall to about -15°C, so a four-season sleeping bag is essential.
Tips for your stay
- Sleep with your phone, camera batteries and water bottle inside your sleeping bag so they don’t freeze.
- Keep drinking water and eat well even if your appetite drops.
- Tell your guide honestly about headaches, nausea or dizziness.
- Go to bed early: tomorrow is the longest day of the trek.
