About Lungden
Lungden (4,380 m), also spelled Lunden or Lungdhen, is a small settlement in the upper Bhote Koshi valley, on the western side of Renjo La. It lies on the ancient trade route that once carried salt, wool and yaks between Tibet and the Khumbu over the Nangpa La pass. Today it is a peaceful overnight stop for trekkers finishing the Everest Three Passes Trek.
Arriving from Renjo La
The descent from Renjo La passes the small lakes of Relama Tsho and Renjo Tsho before reaching the broad, open valley floor. Lungden is a cluster of stone houses and a few lodges among yak pastures, far quieter than any village on the main Everest trail.
The way down
From Lungden the trail follows the Bhote Koshi down through Marlung and Taranga to Thame, then on to Namche Bazaar. With all three passes behind you, it is a relaxed, mostly downhill walk of 6 to 7 hours.
Practical tips
Lodges are basic and few. Mobile signal is weak or absent, and charging is limited. Carry cash and a power bank.
