What’s Included in the Everest Base Camp Trek Package?

When you compare Everest Base Camp treks online, the price is only half the story. Two packages at the same price can differ by hundreds of dollars once you add Lukla flights, permits, meals, porters, gear rental and airport transfers. This page lists every single item in our 14-day Everest Base Camp Trek package, so you know exactly what you’re paying for before you book.

Our rule is simple: if you need it to complete the trek safely, it’s included. That means round-trip flights to Lukla, all government permits and fees, your guide and porter team, three meals a day on the trail, 11 nights in teahouses, 2 nights in a Kathmandu boutique hotel, and the safety system that gets you home: twice-daily oxygen checks, emergency oxygen, and 24/7 evacuation coordination.

What’s left for you to pay is mostly personal: your international flights, Nepal visa, travel insurance, tips for your crew, and small comforts on the trail like hot showers, Wi-Fi, device charging, snacks and drinks. Most trekkers spend USD 250–400 on these trail extras over the 11 trekking days. We break that down honestly below.

How to read this page

Items marked Included are covered by your package price, with no hidden surcharges. Items marked Not included are your responsibility, and we tell you roughly what each costs. Items marked Optional extra can be arranged by our team if you want them, at the price shown.

Why we include what others charge extra for

Many budget packages leave out the Kathmandu–Manthali shuttle in peak season. Others charge for sleeping bag and down jacket rental, or skip the TIMS card and municipality fee until you arrive. We include all of these, because surprise costs at 5 am in a departure terminal are the last thing you need.

Every item on this list is checked each season by our lead guide, Pasang Sherpa (62 EBC completions), against current trail conditions and 2026 regulations. That includes Nepal’s new rule that every trekker in the Everest region must have a licensed guide.

Frequently asked questions

Are Lukla flights included in the Everest Base Camp Trek price?

Yes. Round-trip flights between Kathmandu (or Manthali in peak season) and Lukla are included, with all airport taxes. The Kathmandu–Manthali road transfer is also included.

Are permits included, and how much do they cost?

Yes, all three are included: the Sagarmatha National Park permit (NRS 3,000), the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality fee (NRS 3,000) and the TIMS card (NRS 2,000). Together they're worth about USD 60 per person.

Are meals included on the trek?

Yes. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included every day on the trail, with a hot drink at each meal. In Kathmandu, daily breakfast plus welcome and farewell dinners are included.

Is drinking water included?

Yes, up to 3 litres of boiled or filtered water per day. You don't need to buy bottled water, which also helps reduce plastic waste in the park.

Do I need to rent a sleeping bag and down jacket?

No. A -20°C sleeping bag and a down jacket are included free for the whole trek. You return them in Kathmandu.

Are hot showers included?

Not in the package price. Hot showers are paid directly to the teahouse, usually a few dollars each. Many trekkers skip showers above Dingboche because it's so cold.

How much extra money should I bring for the trek?

Plan for USD 250–400 for trail extras (showers, charging, Wi-Fi, snacks, drinks), plus tips for your crew. Bring Nepali rupees in cash, because ATMs above Namche are unreliable.

Is travel insurance included?

No, but it's mandatory. Your policy must cover trekking up to 6,000 m and helicopter evacuation. We ask for your policy details before the trek.

What happens if my Lukla flight is cancelled?

Rebooking the fixed-wing flight is free, and we adjust all trail bookings at no charge. Extra hotel nights and optional helicopter upgrades are at your cost.

Can I get a refund for unused days if I leave the trek early?

Unused days are usually non-refundable, because guides, porters and lodges are booked for the full trip. Your extra costs, such as a helicopter or hotel nights, may be claimed from your travel insurance.

How much luggage can I bring?

Your porter carries up to 10–12.5 kg of your gear. The Lukla flight allows 15 kg total. You can leave extra luggage safely at your Kathmandu hotel for free.

How much should I tip my guide and porter?

Tipping is personal, but a common guideline is about USD 10–15 per day for the guide and USD 8–12 per day for each porter, shared among the group. Tips are usually given at the farewell dinner.
