You start among terraced farms and Gurung villages, climb thousands of stone steps through forest, then enter the glacier-carved Annapurna Sanctuary, surrounded by Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna and the sacred Machapuchare (Fishtail). ABC Trek Difficulty and Fitness

Is it right for you?

  • Moderate difficulty: 5–7 hours of walking most days with many steep stone staircases, especially around Chhomrong.
  • Lower altitude than Everest: the maximum is 4,130 m, so altitude sickness is less common but still possible above 3,000 m.
  • Good for first-time trekkers with regular fitness training.
  • Avalanche awareness: after heavy snow, the section above Deurali can be closed — guides follow local advice.

Best Time for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Seasons at a glance

  • October–November: clear skies and the best mountain views.
  • March–May: rhododendrons in bloom and warmer days.
  • December–February: cold and snowy near base camp, but quiet.
  • June–August: monsoon rain, leeches and cloudy views.
